Rapier Loom: This is a shuttless loom on wich yarn is carried over half the shed by a moving arm, it is then transferred over to the other side of the shed by a second arm.

Reeled Silk: Silk filaments that are wound directly from three to twelve cocoons into a skein formation. When these wound silk cocoons are given a full mechanical twist the product becomes ‘thrown silk’.

Rib: Refers to a straight raised cord which is formed in the weave by threads which are heavier than the threads in lengthwise and/or crosswise. Knitted fabrics tend to be ribbed lengthwise.

Rigmel Shrunk: Is a process for stabilizing a fabric which increases softness and luster in the fabric.

Runner Length: The number of inches of yarn from a wap to make one rack of fabric.

Run-of-the-loom: This is fabric as it comes from the loom and is direcly ready for shipment without inspection as there is no need to eliminate defects from the weaving &finishing process.

Run-of-the-mill: Fabrics of any type that cannot be classed as grade ‘A’s. Therefore refering to a so called, second quality piece of merchandise which is imperfect.
